Project# 0994.11 Cultural Resources Survey for Cultural/Heritage Assets in the Possession of Subordinate Commands of the Commander, Naval Reserve Forces, United States Navy, 2000 - 2005

HHM undertook a multi-phased, nationwide survey of heritage assets (historic objects) for the Naval Reserve Forces. The survey was designed to record the number and classification of historic objects at each Naval Reserve facility, to determine if any are eligible for the NRHP, and to assist the Naval Historic Center account for items that reflect the Navy’s heritage. HHM inventoried 2,531 heritage assets at 192 subordinate commands throughout the nation. In addition, the survey included an update and reassessment of cultural resources (buildings) previously surveyed during the mid-1990s. HHM identified and evaluated 345 buildings, structures, and objects at 62 NRCs. Additional tasks associated with this project included preparation of summaries and syntheses of archaeological site file data, and relevant geological data for each facility (and a surrounding buffer). Inadvertent Discovery Plans were also prepared for each facility. These will be used to coordinate and manage any discoveries of archaeological resources encountered during the day-to-day running of the Reserve Centers. In its review of reports for Naval Reserve Centers in the state, the Nebraska SHPO wrote, “As we have come to expect from the Navy, this is an excellent product and we extend our compliments on a fine document.”
