Project# 0092.060 Old Bedford School Historic Structures Report and National Register Nomination, Bedford, TX, 1992

As a subconsultant to ArchiTexas, HHM undertook historical research and documentation in support of the old 1914 brick school, which was nearly destroyed by fire in 1991. In the initial phase, the project team prepared a historic structure report that analyzed the building's condition and structural stability. HHM gathered information from various repositories in the area that helped determine the building's original appearance and historical significance. The Project Historian located historic photographs, conducted oral interviews, and examined old school records and prepared a draft National Register nomination. This information helped ArchiTexas determine original construction materials and important architectural detailing damaged by the fire. The City accepted the historic structure report and its recommendations and funded a subsequent $1.4 million restoration of the Old Bedford School. The work was completed in March 1996 and the building has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
